Your Baconator could cost you extra during the lunch or dinner rush next year, thanks to artificial intelligence and Wendy’s corporate.

The fast-food giant plans to make some big changes in its 6,000 restaurants in 2025, which includes introducing surge pricing and artificial intelligence-driven menu boards.

Wendy’s CEO Kirk Tanner revealed the plans during a conference call this month. The proposal included spending $20 million to install digital menu boards in its U.S. restaurants, as well as incorporating AI into the menus. This includes Maricopa and all 100 other locations in Arizona.

“Beginning as early as 2025, we will begin testing more enhanced features like dynamic pricing and daypart offerings along with AI-enabled menu changes and suggestive selling,” Tanner said in the call.

Surge pricing — also called dynamic pricing — refers to a temporary price increase when demand for a service or product shoots up.

Uber popularized the practice when demand for rides increases during special events or rush hour, but they may not have enough drivers to accommodate customers. This causes riders to decide between either paying premium prices or waiting it out.

How this may affect diners just looking for a midday sugar rush from a Frosty has yet to be determined.
