Trisha Goldscharek moved here from Kona, Hawaii, two years ago and has been on a personal mission to bring a healthy lifestyle and fitness program to the residents of Maricopa. Her mission comes from her own struggles with weight.

“I have always been interested in health and fitness throughout my life; however, I struggled with my weight during my 30s,”said Goldscharek. “About six years ago I ordered a home workout called Turbo Jam from an infomercial. I instantly felt like Chalene Johnson was right there in my living room working out with me. She made the workouts fun because of her high energy, and she had great music in her videos. After finishing the Turbo Jam program, I ordered her next series, Chalene Extreme. This program was really the turning point in my personal fitness. After 90 days I had gained enough confidence to get started on my career in fitness.”

After realizing her own physical and mental metamorphosis, Goldscharek began her own work-out routines in the family room with a group of friends. And, since then, has become certified in two of Johnson’s formats, Turbo Jam and PiYo. Her other credentials include ISSA Certified Fitness Trainer, AFAA Group Fitness Instructor, Zumba Gold and Aqua Zumba Instructor and Certified Silver Sneakers Instructor. She is also a Team Beachbody Coach for programs like P90X and Insanity.

Goldscharek started Valley Girl Fitness and currently is holding classes at the clubhouse in The Villages at Rancho El Dorado. She holds her boot camp in the subdivision park next to Butterfield Elementary School. As a personal trainer, she also works with people at their homes or offices.

“There are a lot of people who don’t feel secure with themselves and don’t want to work out in front of others,” said Goldscharek, “I understand that feeling, and I am there to help them get past that point. I was on the weight roller coaster for years, and it took some time before I felt comfortable with myself. Especially as a woman, there is a feeling you are being judged on purely physical appearance, even in a room full of other women. Everyone has different goals, and the important thing is to support them individually.”

“I think a group setting is great in pushing people to the highest level; to see the person next to you working, it only adds motivation,” Goldscharek said. “Not to mention, in the group setting, we have that group sense of accomplishment. That’s a great feeling.”

Goldscharek says her boot camp program is the most effective program for someone who wants a full-body workout.

Every session is different, and we are consistently challenging all the muscle groups,” said Goldscharek. “I like to incorporate high intensity interval training where the ladies will work as hard as they can for a short period time, recover and then repeat. This is not a military-style boot camp; however, I do like to motivate the ladies to work hard and give 110 percent effort to each session.”

On June 2 Goldscharek is beginning a Turbo Kick class for both men and women. Her rates for Turbo Kick and Zumba Gold are $4 per individual. She will have a Zumba Gold Special through the months of June and July for adults; kids, ages 4-15, can come free. Her boot camp is priced at $67 for 12 sessions.

Goldscharek isn’t trying to transform people overnight. She is looking to instill an overall change in lifestyle.

“The most difficult part for most people is believing ‘you have to’ make some healthy changes,” said Goldscharek. “The next step is to pick a start date and stay committed to it. Actively changing negative behavior and adopting a new one may take several months and a lot of dedication. But I am proof; it can be done.”
