Villages jeep fire displaces 4 residents

At approximately 6:40 p.m. Thursday Maricopa Fire crews responded to a report of a jeep on fire in the garage of a home on West Snow Drive in the Villages subdivision.

As fire crews arrived on scene, they found a jeep, which had backed into the garage door of the two-story home, fully involved in fire.

Fire crews worked hard to put the fire out, but fuel that was being stored in the back of the jeep and inside the garage complicated fire fighting efforts. Crews, under the direction of Battalion Chief Jim Wise, kept the fire contained to the garage and vehicle which prevented the fire from extending into the home. The blaze was contained within 20 minutes.

Four residents were displaced due to smoke damage, and the Professional Firefighters of Maricopa, IAFF Local 4561, worked with their insurance company to support the family by coordinating lodging and food.

No firefighters or residents were injured during the incident.

Maricopa Fire investigators and the Maricopa Police Department are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
