Water Board welcomes new member, Maricopa Councilman Marvin Brown

Pinal County Water Augmentation Authority (PCWAA) welcomes a new board member representing the City of Maricopa, Councilman Marvin Brown. “We bid former Mayor Kelly Anderson farewell and welcome Councilman Brown in representing the City of Maricopa on the Water Augmentation Board,” said Chairman David Snider.

As the City of Maricopa’s Council representative to their Industrial Development Authority Board, the Pinal County Water Augmentation Authority Board, and liaison to the Gila River and Ak-Chin Indian Communities, Councilman Brown demonstrates strong commitment to regional relationships and economic development.

Councilman Brown brings to the Water Augmentation Authority a wealth of experience. He most recently represented the City of Maricopa on their Merit Board. Prior to that, he lived in Detroit, Michigan, and held many leadership positions for organizations: Chairman of the Board, Detroit Non-Profit Housing Corporation, Michigan; Chairman of the Board, Michigan Unemployment Agency for Non-Profits, Lafayette Park Kiwanis Club; President, Traveler’s Aide Society of Detroit; Director of Urban Investments, Comac Corporation; and Board Member, Bank of Lansing.

Recently elected to the Maricopa City Council in May 2008, his council term runs from 2008-2012. “I look forward to representing the City of Maricopa in its role as a cooperating partner on water issues within the Water Augmentation Authority, as it represents sustainable water planning for this area,” he said. Councilman Brown and his wife Helen joined the Maricopa community in June 2006.

PCWAA’s goal is to support the development of responsible, collaborative, and sustainable water planning and management in the Pinal Active Management Area (Pinal AMA), a local water planning area, defined by the Arizona Department of Water Resources. The Pinal AMA includes portions of three counties: Pinal, Maricopa and Pima. It includes people in five municipalities: Casa Grande, Coolidge, Eloy, Florence, and Maricopa. There are agricultural users within five irrigation districts: Maricopa-Stanfield, Central Arizona, San Carlos, Hohokam, and Gila River. Three American Indian Reservations are within the AMA (formally, federally recognized American Indian Tribes with land): all of Ak-Chin, and portions of Gila River and Tohono O’odham. There are environmental resources throughout these areas. All require water.

Pinal County Water Augmentation Authority: strives to include all organizational water users in the Pinal AMA, and consequently, the water experts of the area; works together to maximize current and future water (supplies and use) for the Pinal AMA; supports growth where there are available water supplies (Smart Growth); advocates for comprehensive and responsive water resource management policy; represents a unified voice for water issues on behalf of the Pinal AMA; appreciates in-kind contributions; and seeks partners, contributions and volunteers.
