A woman accused of threatening to murder her boyfriend was arrested Sunday morning, according to Maricopa Police Department.

Officers arrested 25-year-old Taunya Gonzales after she reportedly stabbed the door to the bedroom where her boyfriend and their kids were hiding, and threatened to stab them, too.

Just before 1 a.m., cops responded to a report of a person wielding a knife at a home on Shea Way, a short access road to two apartment complexes near The Wells.

The boyfriend told police he and his two children were hiding in his bedroom as Gonzales banged on the door with a knife.

Officers entered the home and told Gonzales to surrender with her hands up. She did not comply at first, according to the police report — until cops threatened to sic K9 Karma on her, at which point she surrendered peacefully.

The boyfriend told police Gonzales was drunk and encouraged him to drink, too. When he refused, she punched him in the face. That’s when he said he grabbed the kids and locked them, and himself, in a bedroom.

He said Gonzales grabbed a knife from the kitchen and tried to stab her way through the door, saying, “if you open this door, I’ll stab you.”

Police noted several knife marks on the bedroom door.

Gonzales was transported to Exceptional Hospital to be medically cleared because of her “high level of intoxication.” She was then booked into the Pinal County jail on two felony counts of aggravated assault and endangerment. She was also slapped with three more misdemeanor charges of threatening, disorderly conduct and criminal damage.

Gonzales faces more than 16 years in prison.
