This year marks a special 60th anniversary for Maricopa High School. Our small town with a big heart has really embraced making this a true community celebration, and for that we all thank you. The support given and the spreading of school spirit are contagious and mean so much to our students, parents and staff.

Last night Mayor Christian Price made his now traditional official proclamations, proclaiming the week of Oct. 18 as Paint the Town Red Week and Oct. 23 as Ram Pride Day. Businesses are encouraged to participate in the contest by decorating with Ram Pride with a prize being awarded to the best one! That week will also be a district-wide Spirit Week with the last day landing on Ram Pride Day as we see all of our future Rams and residents decked out in MHS colors.

Going on now until Oct. 16, the City of Maricopa Youth Council is hosting a Ram Pride Pumpkin Decorating Contest for residents. In order to be entered in the contest, photos of your entry (along with contact info) must be emailed to [email protected] by 4 p.m. on Oct. 16. The winning household will be announced on Oct. 21, with the winners receiving four game tickets to the Oct. 23 game and a concession stand package donated by MHS Boosters.

Monday, Oct. 19, will be the Powder Puff Game as our lady Rams square off in a flag football game, with juniors taking on seniors as they promote Breast Cancer Awareness.

Tuesday, Oct. 20, details are being worked out for a special UltraStar night for students.

Wednesday, Oct. 21, is our big Ram Fest located at Copper Sky. Starting at 5 p.m. there will be vendors, entertainment and food that will lead up to the Alumni vs. City Leaders Flag Football game beginning at 7 p.m. From there we will head over to our pep rally and bon fire as we cheer on our Rams.

Thursday, Oct. 22, the city is hosting a student vs. teacher mud run for MHS at 7 p.m. that will result in the crowning of a mud king and queen.

Friday, Oct. 23, is the big game day. That morning, be sure to tune in to Fox 10 as Cory McCloskey will be out here spotlighting our Rams in the 8-9 hour. As the game nears there will be tailgating before and a special pep rally for alumni in the gym. Kickoff will be at 7 p.m. Let’s fill those stands and give our Rams a good dose of hometown spirit as we cheer them on to another victory. Students are $3, adults are $5 and kids 12 and under are free.

Following the game, there will be a special after-party for adult alumni and staff at Elements Event Center at UltraStar. There you will find a DJ playing the music from the past 60 years, finger foods and a cash bar.

Saturday, Oct. 24, will be our Homecoming Dance for our students. Be on the lookout for some handsomely dressed gentlemen and some beautiful young ladies as they head over to the dance.

And finally on Oct. 31 we will have a Rams Give Back Day where our students will be doing a service project to give back to the community and show appreciation for all of the support.

Fall is in the air. Our Rams are on a winning streak. It’s time to get loud for our Rams and have a good time as a community. Thanks again for all the support and we hope to see you at our events.
