Entry deadline for Holiday Homes on Parade is this week

The Halloween treats are ready to be handed out to trick-or-treaters tonight, and it’s way too early to defrost the turkey. Still, the holiday season is rapidly approaching. Now is the time to plan ahead for Maricopa’s first annual Holiday Homes on Parade.

Time is short. The entry deadline is Friday, November 4.

Holiday Homes on Parade is designed to capture our community’s holiday spirit. Sponsored by the city’s Parks, Recreation and Libraries (PRL) Department, this is a first-time event for Maricopa. The committee would like 75 families to agree to festoon their homes’ exteriors with lights and decorations, but NO music.

Decorations must be in place by Monday, November 28, giving everyone the Thanksgiving weekend to complete their designs. Starting on that Monday, through Friday, December 16, the homes will be on parade. The city will provide a map of the homes entered in the competition.

The first annual Holiday Homes on Parade will feature displays like this one.

Maricopa residents can take the driving tour of the displays, then vote for the winning entries online. For those without computer access, voting will be at City Hall.

The first place winner will receive a $250 gift certificate to Lowe’s Home Improvement Store. Second place takes home a $150 gift certificate, and third place receives a $100 gift certificate.

Register today with the PRL Department. Friday’s entry deadline is early enough to allow signs and maps to be printed. For further information, or to sign up for the event, contact PRL Director Marty McDonald by email or at (520) 568-9098, Ext. 204.

Let’s make Maricopa especially merry and bright. Enter the Holiday Homes on Parade today!
