Kristi Lawrence works in health and wellness as she manages her family and finds time to do some acting on the side. She is also a former English teacher and has strong opinions about nonsensical slang.

Name: Kristi Lawrence

Hometown: Originally from Ellinwood, Kansas

Reside in: Maricopa (in the Villages)

Maricopan since: June of 2005

Occupation: Former high school English teacher/currently work from home with Isagenix (health and wellness company). I also work part-time as a film and commercial actress.

Family: I am married to my husband of 10 years, Eric, and we have two children: Ava, age 8 and Parker, age 6.

Pets: We have a boxer named Kona and a beta fish named Flubber

Cars: Eric drives a Chevy Silverado truck, and I drive a (cough cough) Town and Country minivan. Don’t judge me, I’m a soccer mom right now. I’m still cool, I promise.

Hobbies: Acting, singing, tennis, chasing my children around all of their activities like a maniac….

Pet Peeves: Mean or judgmental people….and making up new words in place of perfectly good ones. It’s not “cray cray”, people. It’s “crazy”–you didn’t even save a syllable there. There no point. And don’t get me started on “totes adorbs.” It makes me twitch just thinking about it. I feel like our society is trying to sound as unintelligent as humanly possible for no reason whatsoever.

Like most about Maricopa: I love that it is our own little bedroom community away from the rest of Phoenix. I grew up in a small town in Kansas, so I enjoy things like going to the grocery store and knowing that I’m going to run into friends and say hello. I feel like we are a very family-oriented community here, and that’s really important to me.

Like least about Maricopa: I think we need more sit-down family restaurants, and I’d give my right arm for a Target.

Favorite….

Book: I’m an avid reader, so I really love all books. Almost every new book I read becomes my “new favorite book” for the time. I’m currently reading the Shatter Me series of books from Tahereh Mafi, and I love it.

Movie: The Shawshank Redemption or The Green Mile

Celebrity: Not sure if I have one favorite because many different celebrities have various qualities that I like (and some that I don’t). Do your talent well, enjoy it, but don’t think you are better than everyone else because you are famous. You’re just not. I’m looking at you, Kardashians. Simmer down.

Musicians/Band: Right now, I would say that my favorite male musician is Sam Smith, favorite female is Sara Bareilles, and I love Maroon 5.

Concert: I LOVE live shows. I’ve been to concerts ranging from Pearl Jam to Carrie Underwood to Josh Groban. Bring them all on.

Team: I’m not even going to pretend that I’m really into professional sports teams. I’ll watch them, but I really don’t care who wins if I’m to be honest.

Nonprofit: I love Doctors Without Borders and the Ronald McDonald House charities. There are so many great ones out there that focus on helping those who desperately need it without expecting anything in return. If that’s what they do, I love them.

Food: My biggest guilty pleasure is cheese. If you pour cheese on it or stuff it with cheese, I’m a goner. Just writing that sentence was enough to make me want to eat cheese.

Drink: Nonalcoholic—Lemonade; Alcoholic—Pineapple Mojito from Joe’s Crab Shack

Restaurant: Any steakhouse. I am very much a “meat and potatoes” girl.

Vacation spot: If it has sun and a beach, I’m in.

Quote: “Not all of us can do great things. But, we can do small things with great love.” –Mother Teresa

Joke: No way I can just pick one. I love jokes. Make me laugh, and I’m happy.
