Community of Hope 10th Anniversary celebration starts after the 10 a.m. services (around 11:30 a.m.) with a catered lunch for all who have been involved with the church.

MONDAY
International Peace Day is noted by a ceremony at Camino Montessori.

TUESDAY
Maricopa High School Boys’ Golf hosts Vista Grande at The Duke at 3 p.m.

Maricopa High School Volleyball hosts Vista Grande at 6 p.m.

WEDNESDAY
Maricopa Unified School District Board meets at 6:30 p.m. Agenda items include reports on the Maricopa Education Foundation, Ignite, Arizona School Board Association Delegate Assembly and the Education Finance Reform Group.

THURSDAY
Maricopa High School Volleyball hosts Phoenix Country Day School at 6 p.m.

FRIDAY
Maricopa High School Football comes home to host Tempe High School at 7 p.m.

Copa Crew Back to School Basketball Tournament returns to Sequoia Pathway Academy gym and Ak-chin gym for all-day competition.

SATURDAY
3-Hour Movie Critic screens The Intern at UltraStar Multi-tainment Center. Attendees must be 21 or older to attend and pay in advance by contacting Shelley Gillespie.

Prayer Vigil for Saeed Abidini will be at noon at Calvary Chapel Maricopa to support the 34-year-old U.S. citizen who has been in jail for his Christian faith in Iran for three years. State Sen. Steve Smith will give the introduction.

Raquel, a.k.a. Rocky, is a sixth-generation Arizonan who spent her formative years in the Missouri Ozarks. After attending Temple University in Philadelphia, she earned a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University and has been in the newspaper business since 1990. She has been a sports editor, general-assignment reporter, business editor, arts & entertainment editor, education reporter, government reporter and managing editor. After 16 years in the Verde Valley-Sedona, she moved to Maricopa in 2014. She loves the outdoors, the arts, great books and all kinds of animals.
