AARP/TaxAide expanding services in Maricopa

AARP/TaxAide site coordinator, Bruce Dransfeldt, announced this week that the free tax preparation service offered for the first time in Maricopa last year will be moving and expanding its hours to accommodate more people.

The AARP/TaxAide service will be moving to the Maricopa Public Library on Smith-Enke Road beginning Feb. 1 until April 13. The service will be available on Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Wednesdays from 4 to 7 p.m.  The service will be in operation until April 13, 2011.

“We’re looking forward to serving more people this year. This is such a great program and really fills a need in our community,” says Dransfeldt. “We can’t do complicated or high-income returns such as businesses, rental properties or partnerships, estates or trusts.  For those you need a paid preparer, but we can handle wages, interest and dividends, capital gains, retirement pay, earned-income and child credits, even foreclosure tax information. Our volunteers receive comprehensive training in both federal and Arizona tax preparation and must pass a rigorous test to prepare returns. All returns are prepared and filed electronically, helping to insure accuracy. There is never a charge for AARP/TaxAide preparation service. We can even just answer a question if you’re doing your own return,” Dransfeldt said.

“We need more volunteers who can help one or both days. Training is in Casa Grande the third week in January. I have volunteered in one way or another for more than 20 years and find it immensely rewarding.”
