Maricopa, now’s your chance to tell the Arizona Department of Transportation how you really feel.

Public comment opened today for ADOT’s tentative five-year construction program, which will cost around $9.2 billion for 219 highway projects around the state.

That includes $49 million earmarked for the Riggs Road overpass on State Route 347 and $1 billion for widening Interstate 10 between Phoenix and Casa Grande. All funding comes from federal and state dollars, as well as taxes generated from gas, diesel and licenses.

Many Maricopa residents and local leaders in recent months advocated to keep funding for the Riggs Road overpass, citing safety concerns and severe traffic congestion on the 14-mile stretch from city limits to I-10.

The board is expected to adopt a final version of the five-year program during its June 21 board meeting. Until then, the public can submit comments now through May 24 by email, phone, letter or completing an online comment form.
