Drive-thru lobster might have been a short-lived dream in Maricopa.

City Manager Rick Horst announced the much-anticipated Angie’s Lobster may not be coming to town after all during a meeting last night.

“Unfortunately, Angie’s Lobster has withdrawn their application for now,” he said.

The lobster roll restaurant was slated to construct a ninth location on the southeast corner of John Wayne Parkway and Edison Road when it submitted pre-application paperwork last month.

The announcement was met with much fanfare from hungry city residents.

Horst noted it was possible another concept from the restaurant’s owners could come to town down the road.

“We understand they have a new store called Angie’s Prime that does lobster and steak,” he said. “So, we’re hoping that’s the reason, but I don’t know for sure.”

Angie’s Prime Grill focuses on serving grilled steak, chicken and lobster tails in salads, burritos and bowls, as well as a limited breakfast menu. The restaurant currently has two locations in the greater Phoenix area.

Angie’s did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
