Playing a live acoustic concert for the first time last week, Maricopa rock band DunderHead set the stage for Honeycutt Coffee’s Acoustic Nights.

The 10-song show featured covers of such rock ‘n’ roll legends as Nirvana and Lynyrd Skynyrd, as well as a few of the band's original songs.

“We play music from every style you can think of,” said Ashley Pollack, the band’s vocalist and rhythm guitarist.

Pollack, her husband Shane (bass) and their friend Mitch Smith (lead guitar) formed the band two years ago when Smith joined the couple for an after-work jam session.

“I told them we should jam sometime and it sounded pretty good so we went from there,” Smith said.

In need of a drummer, the band found musician Jon Larson to fill the role.

“I’ve only been with the band for a month now, but I really dig it,” Larson said.

Unable to fit a full drum set in the shop, Larson played last week’s show with a small percussion stand and a wooden box.

DunderHead plays shows at bars and events in Maricopa and the Phoenix area, and band members said they’re optimistic about the future.

“We get along great and that’s one of the biggest parts of being a band,” Larson said.
