Professional Firefighters of Maricopa Local 4561 presented City Manager Brenda Fischer a photo album commemorating the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks during the Sept. 4 council meeting.

Dan Ashton, president of the union chapter, said the album was being presented because the local union “respects the difficulty associated with your position” and “in respect for all you have accomplished in such a short period of time.” Fischer became city manager in May 2011.

Among the administrative tests negotiated by Fischer, Ashton listed “the handling of all the different departments, the tough decisions you have made under this current economic situation and the unexpected events that may pop up from day to day."

He went on to say, “Mrs. Fischer, you have treated every situation and everyone with great professionalism and the highest level of respect.  . . . Local 4561 is very excited to continue our professional relationship with you, your staff and this great community for many years to come."

The album was from the International Association of Firefighters convention in Philadelphia.
