Bridger Kimball will again run for a seat on the Maricopa City Council.

Kimball ran and lost for a council seat in 2010, but said he now has positioned himself as a stronger candidate by having been appointed to the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission and being more active in the community.

“I have learned more than I expected to learn over the last year and feel that the previous election process and my experiences and interactions with city staff and others within our city have made me an even stronger candidate for this position,” Kimball said.

He has lived in Maricopa since 2003 and said he cares for the city and community.

“I would like to be a conservative voice for the citizens of Maricopa on important issues that could potentially positively or adversely affect the future of our city,” he said. “Over the past year our current council seems to have accomplished quite a bit and played an intricate role in pushing our city forward in the right direction.

“That being said, I do not necessarily agree with everything they have done but I do believe they have the city’s best interest in mind overall.”

As a small-business owner, Kimball said he will apply the same measures of accountability and fiscal well being to city council.

“I strongly believe in small business sustainability in Maricopa and will be a strong advocate for just that,” he said. “Since my appointment to the Maricopa Planning and Zoning Commission I have gained a vast array of knowledge on the future growth of our city as well as the process in which development occurs.”

Kimball is co-owner of Caswells, an indoor shooting range and firearms retailer in Mesa, and  has been in the retail sales industry for more than 11 years. He believes he would play a vital role in selling the city to potential businesses and employers.

Kimball said he wants to help bring Maricopa from a bedroom community to a thriving city. In order to do that, he believes the city will have to bring in more jobs and entertainment while sustaining the success of existing businesses.

He said he wants to bring capital improvement projects that are currently on the agenda to fruition.

Kimball said he will kick off his campaign with a “splash” and will announce campaign events in the near future.

The council seats currently occupied by Marvin Brown, Carl Diedrich and Marquisha Griffin will be up for election in 2012. The primary election will be in March and the general election in May.
