Spending months or years in a combat situation is unimaginable to most Americans, but the soldiers who risk their lives to protect the United States often return home needing help once they return to civilian life.

But help is just a community college campus away thanks to former state legislator Cheryl Chase.

Central Arizona College and the Arizona Department of Veterans’ Services will provide a presentation Nov. 29 for military veterans who need help navigating governmental resources.

The free informational session for all veterans – not just those returning from Afghanistan or Iraq – will be held frm 5-7 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Maricopa at 18705 N. John Wayne Pkwy.

“We did this at Central’s Signal Peak Campus in September and wanted to move it around Pinal County to make it accessible to our veterans,” Chase explained. “It is not just limited to Pinal County veterans either. We are close to the Maricopa County border and encourage any veteran seeking guidance or information to attend the program.”

“There will be a presentation and an opportunity to learn more about services in regards to veteran entitlement and the Montgomery G.I. Bill,” Chase, the former Arizona State Representative from District 23, said. “We felt it was important to get veterans – from any area – to one location where we could provide direct information from the Arizona Department of Veterans’ Services.”

Michael Klier, the deputy director for the department, and Kenneth Nettles, a benefits counselor, will be at the session to meet with veterans from throughout Pinal County.

Pre-registration for the program is not required. For more information, contact Chase at (520) 494-5350 or [email protected].
