Raceway Bar and Grill will be hosting the inaugural Maricopa Car & Bike Show on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. to raise money for the Copa Sol softball team to go to the U.S. Specialty Sports Association (USSSA) World Series in Orlando, Florida.

The team needs to raise approximately $20,000 to get all the players and coaching staff to Florida. Event organizer and Copa Sol coach Bill Gomez is hoping the car show will provide a much-needed boost to the team’s funding.

“Right now we’re looking at $20,000 just to get our team there,” Gomez said. “We’re just hoping that Maricopa and the surrounding cities will get behind us and see that it’s not just a car show, but an opportunity for young ladies in our city to have a lifetime experience.”

The USSSA is one of the largest youth sports organizations in the country. It handles leagues and national tournaments for youth sports ranging from lacrosse to martial arts.

“These girls worked really hard and put in a lot of good effort,” Copa Sol coach Jeremy Merchant said. “Maricopa needs the recognition, and bringing a great team like these girls, and getting them to the World Series in Florida, would be an awesome opportunity to show that.”

For the players, it’s a chance to showcase their talent and their home town. Each player felt they have put in the work, and they want to show that even though they come from a small town, they can do big things.

***ADVERTISEMENT***The show is open to cars, trucks, bikes, and motorcycles. Whether the vehicle is customized for the street, slightly customized in the interior, fully customized from top to bottom, or stock off the lot, members of the community who would like to show off their vehicle are welcome to participate. All money raised from the event will go toward getting the Copa Sol softball team to Orlando.

Raceway Bar and Grill is at 49237 W Papago Road.
