Catherine Konski: Why I choose to be a member of the MASH Coalition

365

I am a mother. I am a wife. I have friends and loved ones who surround me.

Individuals that are a part of each of these relationships potentially could end up addicted or affected by substance abuse. That is a powerful reality, and one that resonates deeply with me.

As a member of the MASH Coalition, I am able to do my part to keep our community drug free. We reach out to all sectors of our city, all ages and ethnicities, to educate people on the harmful effects of drug and alcohol abuse. We provide valuable resource information to community members in need, connecting individuals with agencies that are able to help and deliver.

I find support in the relationships I have formed with other members of the MASH Coalition, respecting their varied life experiences and gaining knowledge from their perspectives on how to keep Maricopa prosperous and safe. I appreciate the few hours each month we are able to spend together, to brainstorm, learn and collaborate. No opinions are cast when I am unable to attend meetings, and there are few expectations of myself other than input and engagement.

It is incredible to see the community band together for the cause of fighting against substance abuse, and the MASH Coalition is at the heart of this effort. Whether you can relate to my personal reasons for becoming a member of the group, you want to do something meaningful for your community, or you seek a better sense of the united community you reside in, we would love for you to become part of this group.

Monthly meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month, 6:30 p.m. at City Hall.
