City announces road closures, a rescheduled ceremony, and Saturday’s annexation forum

An annexation forum is slated for Saturday, a police promotion ceremony has been rescheduled, and the flooded Santa Rosa Wash on West Honeycutt Road is expected to reopen Friday. Here are the details:

Police promotion ceremony rescheduled
The Maricopa Police Department ceremony to promote two officers to the rank of sergeant originally scheduled for 3 p.m. Feb. 4 has been moved to 11 a.m. Feb 8 in the Zephyr Room at City Hall, 45145 W. Madison Ave. For information contact Maricopa Police at (520) 316-6800.

Flooded Santa Rosa Wash to reopen on Honeycutt
The city’s Public Works Department has closed West Honeycutt Road at the Santa Rosa Wash. today due to flowing water. Signs are in place identifying detours. West Honeycutt Road is expected to reopen Friday, a city official said. For information contact the city at (520) 568-9098.

Annexation forum slated for Saturday
The second of two follow-up city of Maricopa forums to discuss proposed annexation boundaries will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Pima Butte Elementary School, 42202 W. Rancho El Dorado.

On Jan. 30 the city of Maricopa held the first of two public meetings regarding the proposed boundaries and other details regarding annexation.

The meeting covered the following information:
* An overview of annexation and how it works
* Discussion on why people choose annexation
* The status of what has taken place thus far
* Projected timelines for the completion of the annexation

After the presentation, given by Annexation Project Manager Nicole Dailey, attendees could meet individually with city staff and voice questions or concerns.

“We appreciate those that attended the public meeting yesterday,” Dailey said. “It is important that the City provides accurate information to those affected by the annexation. This was just the first of several meetings that will be scheduled as we continue through this process.”

More roads are closed
The following sreet closures and cautions are currently in effect:

* Honeycutt Road is closed from Maricopa Groves Parkway to Santa Rosa Drive. A detour is in place.
* Porter Road is closed south of the Railroad tracks from the Santa Rosa Springs Development to Farrell Road.
* Rancho El Dorado is open, however, there is minimal flow from the Wash. Signs are posted to caution motorists in the area.
* White and Parker is closed from Honeycutt Road to Smith-Enke Road.
* Farrell Road is closed from Porter Road to Palo Verde Street until further notice.
* Porter Road is closed from Bowlin Road to the Maricopa/Casa Grande Highway until the new road alignment is completed.
