City introduces Maricopa flag

Rooftops of cars driving the streets of Maricopa can now be painted like the car from the old Dukes of Hazard television show, especially since the City has introduced its own flag.

While the flag’s designer, city public relations spokesperson Jennifer Grentz, said the city will not be selling the flag to the general public, it could not do anything if residents choose to paint the image on the roofs of their cars.

“The image isn’t copyrighted so it can be reproduced as the individual sees fit,” Grentz said.

To design the city’s new flag Grentz developed a color scheme and overlaid it with images developed by the Pat Davis Design Company for the city’s branding initiative last year. Maricopa Mayor Anthony Smith and Councilman Edward Farrell gave the flag its final approval.

“It is a very pretty flag,” Grentz said.

Currently the flag can only be seen at city council meetings, but Grentz said she suspects there will soon be a larger version flying over city hall.

Vice-Mayor Brent Murphree said he did not have any preconceived notions about what the flag would look like before he saw it and was happy with the final design.

“It is a very neat flag,” Murphree said.
