City issues 13 new home permits last month

The city of Maricopa issued a total of 13 single-family housing permits in January.

That number is eight lower than the 22 permits the city issued in December and 93 less than the city issued in January 2008.

The city bases a portion of its budget on permits sold in a fiscal year, which runs from July to June.

So far this fiscal year, builders have pulled a total of 259 permits for the construction on homes, an average of 37 permits a month.

The previous year, the city averaged 133 permits per month.
