City Manager Ben Bitter dropped a major spoiler this morning.

During a breakfast presentation hosted by the Maricopa Chamber of Commerce, Bitter said the city plans to lower property tax rates for a sixth year in a row.

“Spoiler alert, it’s going to happen again,” he said. “We’re getting ready to present our budget recommendations to the city council here in the coming weeks and we’ll see a dramatic decrease in our property tax again.”

Last year, residents saw property tax rates drop 7% to 3.87%. Bitter did not say how much rates may drop this year, but speculated number crunching should be done in time for the May 7 city council meeting.

“It’s a hallmark of our consistent ability to manage our finances appropriately,” he told InMaricopa. “We’re trying to provide taxpayers the maximum bang for their buck so they can feel that the dollar they’re paying local government is being reciprocated with appropriate services and a high quality of life.”

  1. The tax rate may go down but the accessed value of your property goes up so you still end up paying more in property taxes. Your home does not have a fixed value for taxing purposes. My tax $’s went up 3.8% last year even with the 3.87% rate drop. This articles is misleading because it only provides one half of property tax equation. Check your own yearly tax burdens.
