County court clerk: Consider merit-based incentives

409

It is time for meaningful compensation to become a reality in Pinal County; it is time we are true to our own sense of right – because managing an organization is about people whether the organization is public or private.

I am perfectly confident that if my suggestions proposed at the Board of Supervisors meeting on Wednesday and again today, are taken to heart, we can reduce many employee issues while maintaining the best level of service to the taxpayers.

When we lose our top performers due to the inability to remain competitive in the labor market, everyone who benefits from county services will suffer. Merit-based and performance-based systems are the most fair. Nothing is more certain that managers should reward hard workers; they have earned that reward.

Across-the-board pay increases (especially one-time bonuses) strategically timed during an election cycle are not the prudent answer – they are an expedient answer if you wish to make some voters happy – but this is not sensible fiscal stewardship.
