Copa Crew Basketball is holding its third annual Back to School Basketball Tournament from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Maricopa Wells Middle School.
For the past two years, coaches Jesse and Dee Estrada have had more than 30 teams from across Arizona visit the community to compete for trophies, MVP awards, sportsmanship awards and T-shirts.
This has been an opportunity for local businesses to donate items that are raffled as prizes throughout the event. In return, the team reminds visitors to shop local and eat at local restaurants while visiting for the event.
The club was established in 2009 and the girls strive to represent the Maricopa in every game they play.
Two weeks ago the eighth-grade division nabbed first place in the Setan Classic Tournament.
