Teen biker hit by car

UPDATE Feb. 23, 2024 8:38 p.m.: Maricopa police confirmed a teen was hit by a car on North John Wayne Parkway Friday tonight.

“A 14-year-old was riding their bike along John Wayne Parkway when they were struck by a car turning out of a business driveway,” said public safety spokesperson Monica Williams, “They were transported to a valley hospital in stable condition.”

The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with officers as they completed their investigation, Williams said.

ORIGINAL STORY Feb. 23, 2024 8:30 p.m.: Maricopa police and fire crews responded to reports of a person hit by a car on North John Wayne Parkway tonight.

Police were on the scene around 7:30 p.m., according to several witnesses.

“MPD and MFMD responded to a reported vehicle versus pedestrian call,” public safety spokesperson Monica Williams told InMaricopa.

Injuries remain unknown at this time.

Northbound lanes on John Wayne Parkway were closed, Williams said. Drivers were rerouted on West Honeycutt Road as the scene was cleared.

The roadway appeared to be reopened by 7:50 p.m.
