Council to discuss replacing city manager with finance director Monday

    195

The Maricopa City Council will meet in a hastily called special session early Monday morning to consider appointing the finance director as interim city manager and making the current manager his assistant (see related story).

The meeting, the agenda for which is posted below, will be at 7:30 a.m. at Maricopa City Hall, 45145 W. Madison Ave. It was called to discuss a request by city manager Rick Buss to take on the role of assistant city manager. Buss, the only city manager since Maricopa’s incorporation in 2003, requested he be allowed to accept the assistant manager’s position and the city would search for a new full-time city manager.

A resolution will be discussed on appointing Roger Kolman as an interim city manager and establishing a salary for that office. City council will also discuss and possibly take action relative to informing staff on the process of recruitment for the city manager office.

According to Buss, the need for an assistant city manager is due to a heavy workload in the city manager’s office. The position was posted on the City’s Web site earlier this month, and will run until July 26 or until filled.

The salary for the assistant city manager is listed at around $116,000. Buss said his current salary as acting city manager is $120,000.
