The city of Maricopa will be hosting two events for Crime Victims’ Rights Week April 19-25.

Maricopa Mayor Christian Price will start the first event by proclaiming the week of April 19 to be Crime Victims’ Rights Week. The ceremony will take place on Tuesday at City Hall. The event is expected to be brief, but many faith-based organizations will be invited to attend.

The second event will be the third annual Jerry Good Victim Rights Awareness Project, named after Jerry Good, who was the first volunteer with the Maricopa Police Department to organize the victim assistance program. This event will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. on April 25 in the City Council chambers. Arizona Coalition to End Sexual and Domestic Violence public policy manager Shannon Rich will be speaking, and Pinal County Attorney Lando Voyles and Judge Lyle Riggs are expected to attend.

“[Crime Victims’ Rights Week] is a way to reach out and support all victims,” Maricopa Community Programs Manager Mary Witkofski said. “It’s important that victims should be given information and support for their own lives.”
