The automotive and welding programs at Maricopa High School will host the second annual Show and Shine Car Show 9 a.m. to noon Sunday on the school campus.

Auto/welding teacher Michael Conner is coordinating the event and said students will judge the “Top 20 Best Of” on a points system looking at car interiors, paint job, engine work, display and more.

“I’m hoping for somewhere around 75 (cars); my thought is there will be more,” Conner said. About 1,000 fliers have been handed out since Friday and Conner said he had many conversations with people interested in automobiles who want to support the program.

Cars are coming from Tucson, Phoenix, Casa Grande and the East Valley, Conner said.

The fee for cars in the judging competition is $25. Admission is $2 and all proceeds support the automotive and welding programs, part of Career and Technical Education at MHS.

Cars and vendors are asked to arrive at 8 a.m.

Vern Lewis Welding supplies will be on hand with a Vertox virtual welder along with a demonstration trailer. A UTI student built factory Cobra will be on display. Cars will include pro built sand cars and trucks, turbo cars, classic hot rods, vintage cars and modified customs.

The school is at 45012 W. Honeycutt Ave.
