UPDATE Sept. 8 11:31 a.m.: A student claimed to have brought a weapon to the school.

ORIGINAL STORY Sept. 8 11:25 a.m.: Students at Sequoia Pathway Elementary were ordered to “shelter in place” around 11 a.m. this morning.

The private academy on North Porter Road alerted parents at 10:55 a.m. its elementary school was locked down for an unspecified safety concern.

“As soon as more information is obtained, we will update you as soon as possible,” the school told parents in an email. “We appreciate your understanding in this matter.”

School officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

This comes just two weeks after police began investigating an alleged assault on a student by a teacher at Sequoia Pathway Elementary.

“I really wish the schools wouldn’t be so vague,” parent Jessica Truckner said. “Not knowing and being unable to contact someone for information, it panics parents.”
