Drug dealer turned motivational speaker Robert D. Boyd, Jr., will be speaking out to children about the dangers of a life of drugs and gangs this Wednesday, Sept. 22, at the Maricopa Youth Recreation Center.

“A life of gangs and drugs only leads to one of two places,” said Boyd, “the penitentiary or the grave.”

The event, scheduled from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., is free for all to attend and open to anyone in the public who needs to hear the message.

“I want to encourage parents to bring their children out; I have a powerful message the youth need to hear,” Boyd said.

The event is being hosted by the CAASA Youth Center, located in the Oasis Life Church building at 19756 N. John Wayne Parkway.

The center is funded partially through monies provided by the city of Maricopa and focuses on programming that helps build character and awareness in the community’s youth.
