Explore the Grand Canyon from bottom to top

Maricopans interested in seeing the Grand Canyon from the bottom up will have two opportunities to do so this fall.

Central Arizona College is offering this opportunity through its Central Arizona Lifelong Learners program.

The trip through the Canyon on a pontoon boat is 40 miles long. Three-day trips are scheduled for Friday through Sunday, Sept. 19-21, and on Tuesday through Thursday, May 19-21.

The adventure includes two nights of lodging at the Hualapai Lodge in Peach Springs, a helicopter ride to the rim of the Canyon and bus transportation from Central’s Superstition Mountain Campus, 273 East Old West Highway, in Apache Junction.

C.A.L.L. members pay $549 for the September trip or $559 for the May trip; the cost for non-members is $638 in September and $648 in May. However, this price also includes a year’s membership to the C.A.L.L program.

Other trip amenities include lunch on a sandy beach under the towering cliffs and rock formations of the Canyon, an optional hike to Travertine Falls and the thrill of riding real rapids.

To register for the trip or for information on the C.A.L.L. program, contact Joel Beck by phone (480-677-7721) or e-mail ([email protected]).
