Fifteen local fire crew members were recognized during an annual special pinning ceremony held by Maricopa Fire and Medical Department Saturday.

The ceremony is to “bring the family and the friends of those that are being promoted together,” said Fire Chief Brad Pitassi.

Each fire crew member was pinned with a new badge to their uniform by a loved one.

“They get a new one with each rank as it’s written directly on the badge,” said public safety spokesperson Monica Williams.

MFMD also recognized several of its long-standing volunteers.

The ceremony was a “great opportunity” for family and friends to “recognize the dedication and the commitment that their firefighter in their family has had to this department and their own career and personal development,” Pitassi said.

“I take a lot of enjoyment from seeing the families here,” he added. “I’m so excited for them.”
