Maricopa fire crews responded to small fire Tuesday evening in the engine compartment of a train that came to a stop on the Union Pacific Railroad tracks near Farrell Road and Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway.

There were no injuries reported.

Brad Pitassi of the Maricopa Fire Department said it is believed that a filter by the engine’s turbo overheated and caused the small fire, which was isolated to the engine compartment.

Pitassi said he believed the train was moving when the fire began. Crews responded to the scene around 8:15 p.m. with a water tender and other trucks.

There were no hazardous materials on the train, he said.
