Friends hosting huge book sale Saturday

Maricopa book lovers will have the opportunity to find all types of books in various genres at bargain prices this Saturday.

The Friends of the Maricopa Library are sponsoring their semi-annual used book sale at Santa Rosa Elementary School. The sale begins at 8 a.m. and lasts until noon on Saturday, Sept. 19. Many genres sell out quickly, so patrons are encouraged to arrive early.

Hundreds of books will be available. Looking for modern fiction, romance, mysteries or cookbooks? They will all be on sale, as well as non-fiction, how-to books, westerns, science fiction and more. Most importantly, the low, low price is $5 per grocery bag. The group provides the paper grocery bags so patrons can fill them with as many books as they would like.

Children’s books will be on sale for 25 cents and up. Videos, DVDs and CDs will be offered as part of the $5 per bag sale price.

In addition to selling used books, the Friends will also have available for purchase their cookbook “Home Cookin’ from Maricopa, Arizona” and the city’s definitive history book, “Reflections of a Desert Town,” by Friends member Patricia Brock.

The new Friends of the Maricopa Library book bags will be offered for $7 each, and filled to the brim with books for the bargain price of $10.

All proceeds from the sale will go to Maricopa’s public library to support programs and to purchase materials.

“Our $5-per-bag sales have become very popular, and most of our customers leave with more than one bag,” Friends book sale chairwoman Judy Figgins said. “Our goal is to sell as many books as possible, and it’s great to see repeat customers bring in their families and friends. We would also like to thank Bashas’ for donating the bags and the school district for the use of their facilities.”
