Housing permits drop in February

The city of Maricopa witnessed a drop-off in housing permits in February, with builders only pulling the paperwork necessary to build eight single-family homes.

“I think the weather had a lot to do with the slow month,” said Paul Jepson, assistant to the city manager.

The eight permits were a far cry from the 41.7 pace the city has averaged thus far this fiscal year, which runs from July to June. The slow February numbers drop the average to 37.8.

Money generated from the construction of new homes is one of the revenue sources the city uses when calculating its annual budget. In this current fiscal year, which started in July, the city is operating off the expectation of 15 permits per month.
