IDA board will hear redevelopment plan update tonight

Maricopans who missed the first Redevelopment District Plan forum last month are invited to attend the city’s Industrial Development Authority (IDA) board meeting Thursday, Marich 5, at the Global Water Center.

Maricopa’s City Council authorized the IDA in December 2007. The board consists of seven members, who must be city residents. Each serves a staggered, six-year term. The group meets the first Thursday of each month, as needed.

Board members encourage economic development and job creation by making low-interest loans to qualified projects after a review to ensure the project will further the city’s sustainability. Loans are funded through the issuance of tax-exempt bonds.

Thursday Morrison Maierle, the team working to create a Redevelopment District Plan in the central area of the city, will explain the purpose of the plan, progress made to date, how the plan will affect Maricopa’s development and how it relates to the duties of the IDA board.
