The Maricopa Center for Entrepreneurship selected Jennifer Hawkins as their January “Art and Entrepreneur” series exhibitor.

Hawkins has been painting abstract and acrylic styles for as long as she can remember. She is often painting more than one piece at a time, and her art has been featured in local events such as Art on the Veranda and the first round of paintings to hang in City Hall.

“I’ve been an artist since I was born,” Hawkins said. “It’s in my heart and I just love it. I paint because it just comes out of me.”

MCE will have Hawkins’ art on display for the month of January. The pieces range from images of the Sierra Nevada Mountains to Star Wars, and each one carries a piece of Hawkins with it.

“I usually do my abstract from my heart without thinking about any plan at all,” Hawkins said. “Then I’ll usually have an impressionist painting or something that’s harder to paint and I’ll plan it out and think about what it will look like in the end. So I’ll have one going that takes a lot of time and energy, and then I’ll do an abstract one on the side that’s just free flowing and from my heart.”

Some of the pieces on display at the MCE are for sale, but others are only for display. Hawkins stated she gets attached to certain pieces and has a hard time letting them go.
