Library website career tool aiding job seekers

Is the best job-seeking strategy to pound the pavement or to surf the web?  Career experts would likely say a combination of both is best in this economy.

To aid job seekers, the Pinal County Library District has announced the launch of Career Cruising, a new job search and career assessment tool.

Career Cruising helps users explore career options and find recommendations suited to their interests and skills. From the main website interface, job seekers can use the Assessments menu to find a career ‘Matchmaker” tool that helps users identify possible career paths. There are more than 500 occupations profiled where you can view job descriptions, education and training requirements and earnings potential. Some profiles feature photos and interviews with people who are in those careers.

The Employment menu offers resume writing tools, letter writing tips, tools and tips for interviewing and even help once you’re on the job. The career portfolio tool gives you a place to save your progress as you plan, and includes an easy-to-use resume builder. If you’re exploring your career options, planning your education, or applying for a job, Career Cruising is a great place to start.

Career Cruising’s Employment menu lets you use its simple interface to search across multiple job search sites and career bulletin boards. There are basic and advanced searching options.

Another section offers a way to explore and compare schools and training programs, search for specific programs or research financial aid options.

“Pinal County brings the library to your living room with its online databases and reference materials,” said Library District Director, Denise Keller. “We have brought the power of valuable research tools like Career Cruising, Morningstar’s Investment tools, youth activity guides and learning tools for children. All you need is your computer and a Pinal County library card.”
