A Maricopa man is accused of assaulting a woman after she refused to have sex with him on April 16, according to Maricopa police.

Efrain Zuniga was booked into Pinal County jail on suspicion of assault (domestic violence) and disorderly conduct (domestic violence), two days after the incident, the probable-cause statement said.

On April 16, at about 11:20 p.m., Maricopa police received a report of an erratic driver. The reporting party stated a man, who she identified as Zuniga, was intoxicated on alcohol and cocaine, and that he had left the home on West Crane Drive in Homestead in his work truck, police said.

According to a probable-cause statement, officers contacted the reporting party by phone. The woman stated that Zuniga had been drinking all day at a neighbor’s house.

The woman reported that she had been taking a shower, and when she got out had Zuniga entered the bathroom and said he wanted to have sex, police said. The woman denied him, officers said.

Zuniga reportedly got angry and started yelling at the woman. The woman said she asked why he was acting this way and asked if it was because of cocaine usage. Zuniga reportedly got more upset, pushed the woman, and made a fist and prepared to hit her. He did not hit her, but hit the wall and broke a light-switch cover.

The woman provided police an image of the broken light-switch cover.

According to Maricopa police, the woman reported Zuniga left in the truck shortly thereafter.

On April 18, police contacted Zuniga at the Homestead residence. He was arrested and during a police interview stated he and the woman had gotten into an argument because he wanted to have sex. Zuniga denied making a fist or hitting the light switch.
