Little wash, big problem for HOA

Behind Maricopa Meadows subdivision is a little wash that has been one big problem.

This wash borders Maricopa Meadows and runs along Hogenes Farm and Ak-Chin Farms for a couple of hundred yards. For most of the wash’s length, it is either impossible or difficult to see the water because of the dense jungle of weeds and saltwater cedars.

Get close enough to the water’s edge and you can see gnats and dragonflies tap dancing upon the surface.

“The HOA has been aware of the wash since its inception,” said Christian Price, the Maricopa Meadows board president.

Price said it has become a dump area for trash and is a fire hazard as weeds and vegetation grow excessively. The impenetrable tree barrier is keeping water stagnant, creating a breeding ground for mosquitoes. With the discovery of mosquitoes that carry the West Nile Virus, the wash has become an even greater health issue, Price said.

Since becoming president of the HOA in 2006, Price has looked for a resolution while going through what he calls a “bureaucratic nightmare.”
