Maricopa plants trees to celebrate Earth Day

Maricopa planted three trees at high noon Tuesday to celebrate Earth Day.

H&N Landscaping donated the 15-gallon trees, and Mayor Kelly Anderson, who grows flowers for a living, helped with the planting at City Hall.

Also, in observation of the day, many members of the city staff wore green shirts. Those who live in town were encouraged to car pool, bike or walk to work. When they got there, they settled into their work spaces and performed their duties without the benefit of air conditioning.

Jim Hull, a community activist who lives in the Maricopa community of Province, praised the effort.

“I was very excited about the city today and what they did for Earth Day,” he said. “I thought it was just great.”
