The Maricopa Titans 13U baseball club had an impressive win in the United States Specialty Sports Association tournament during May 17-19. The team is comprised of boys 13 and younger from the Maricopa area, and it is coached by Jorge Romero, Jordan Gusse, and Kevin Gusse.

“I am proud of my boys who ended their season with a championship,” said Romero. “They are a great team that showed their true character.”

The Titans won all five of their tournament games, and Romero said they achieved his goal of truly becoming a team.

All their hard work and determination paid off in the end, and every player was able to make a positive contribution to the team, said Romero.

Team captain and shortstop Kalayo Harmon led the team with a .727 batting average.

Michael Gallegos drove in three runs in Game 3 for the Titans, and Andres Gusse had four RBIs in the fourth game. Israel Carrasco led the team with two triples and catcher Micah Cluey scored four runs in the tournament.

Romero said the highlight of the tournament, however, was Jacob Rocco, the youngest player on the team. Rocco joined the Titans a little rough around the edges and still needed to develop his skills. His hard work over the season paid off and he ended the tournament with an RBI in every game including the championship-winning single.

“Jacob Rocco is what the Maricopa Titans are all about,” said Romero. “At the end of the game the boys were all cheering ‘Rocco, Rocco, Rocco.’”***ADVERTISEMENT***
