Broken water main drops pressure

A broken water main behind the Maricopa Fire Department’s old fire station on North John Wayne Parkway prompted a drop in water pressure early Thursday for customers of the Maricopa Water Improvement District.

The district provides water to about 300 customers in the older parts of town.

“We had a leak, then the pipe blew,” said Don Pearce, chairman of the water district’s board. “We run into this a lot with old pipes.”

Pearce said the leak, which flooded some streets, occurred around 7 a.m. After the leak was repaired, pressure was back to normal around 10 a.m.
