Maricopans in the military

Blue Star Mothers Tracy Davis and Lisa Durst have teamed up to write a periodic Maricopa Military Members column.

If you are a Maricopa military mom, spouse, sibling or anyone else wanting to celebrate an enlisted family member or friend, or if you are interested in joining the organization, contact Tracy Davis at [email protected] or Lisa Durst at [email protected].

Coral Heazlit

Coral is a 2011 graduate of Maricopa High School. She is an intelligence analyst in the U.S Army. Her job requires her to read incoming reports and analyze them. Heazlit then puts that information on a slideshow for presentation. In a note to Blue Star Moms Lisa Durst, Coral wrote: “I really do appreciate everything you guys have done for me, getting a care package really lights up my day, and I sleep with your blanket every night.”

(Durst donated blankets to an Army unit in Afghanistan).

Blane Davis

Blane is a 2010 graduate of Maricopa High School. Blane is stationed in Yokosuka, Japan. He is a machinist’s mate 2nd Class Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy. He maintains, operates, and trains personnel in the maintenance and operation of shipboard pumps, air conditioning and refrigeration plants, water heaters, galley equipment, Rigid-Hull Inflatable Boats (RHIBs), boat davits, steering gears, aircraft elevators, cryogenic plants that produce pure oxygen and nitrogen, steam catapults for launching aircraft, shipboard waste management machinery, and main propulsion equipment to include boilers, high-pressure and low-pressure turbines.

Blane’s favorite care package items are coffee and jerky.

Maricopa Girl Scouts packing party

In November, Durst and Davis were guests at a Maricopa Girl Scouts meeting. They shared information about care packages for the troops. The scouts collected items and had a “packing party” the following week. Their questions were insightful.

The scouts ended up packing 11 care packages. Each box costs $13.45 to send.
