May single-family building permits down from previous month

The city of Maricopa issued a total of 26 single-family building permits in May.

That number is below the 47 permits the city issued last month and 94 fewer permits than the city issued in May 2008.

The city bases a portion of its budget on the number of permits let in a fiscal year, which runs from July 1 to June 30.

So far this fiscal year builders have pulled a total of 360 permits for home construction, an average of 32.7 permits per month.

Last fiscal year the city averaged 133 permits per month.
