Maricopa High School is closing campus for the rest of the semester.

Maricopa Unified School District reported additional cases of COVID-19 on Monday and more people awaiting results. Maricopa ZIP codes are also showing community spread.

After meeting virtually with the Pinal County Health Department, MUSD administrators opted to close in-person learning from Dec. 1-18. With Winter Break beginning Dec. 21, the first possibility of MHS students returning to the classroom is Jan. 5.

For now, all students will return to online learning, though Learning Labs will continue on campus from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Grab-and-go meals will be available for pickup from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Copa Café.

Today’s announcement noted, “Students who are not quarantined due to direct exposure may continue to participate in extracurricular and athletic activities.”

This is the second shutdown for the high school. Maricopa Wells Middle School just returned from a closure due to COVID-19.
