Pinal County Sheriff’s Office identified the motorcyclist killed in a crash early this morning.

The decedent is 29-year-old Demetrius Catus, confirmed by PCSO spokesperson Lauren Reimer.

Public records show Catus was a Tortosa resident since January 2023 after moving from Chandler. He worked as a social media coordinator for Nike in Tempe, according to the public records search.

Catus faced DUI charges at least twice in Phoenix municipal court in 2022 and 2023, according to court records. The first case was dismissed, and he pleaded guilty to DUI charges last year.

At approximately 3 a.m. this morning, Maricopa police attempted to pull over Catus during a traffic stop on John Wayne Parkway and Honeycutt Road.

Catus reportedly fled southbound on John Wayne Parkway before crashing near Alterra Parkway. He died at the scene.

Toxicology reports are pending.
