The Community of Hope Church recently hosted a movie night, drawing approximately 175 people to Jane Askew Park at Rancho El Dorado. The event was held September 10 and featured many games for the kids followed by a showing of The Incredibles. The Boy Scouts served up the popcorn, 200 hotdogs were eaten and many people dropped off donations for the displaced families from Hurricane Katrina.

“One little girl (pictured above) brought a bag of her stuffed animals and toys along with a very sweet note for the families,” Rusty Akers, Community of Hope’s lead pastor, said.

The primary purpose of the festivities was to build camaraderie and give Maricopa residents a reason to get out and meet their neighbors, according to Akers. “We had such great feedback that we plan on hosting another one.”

The sequel is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, October 1.
