Two men, including one who just turned 18 Wednesday, have been arrested for breaking into Chitwood Feed & Hardware after being seen leaving with a cash register and bags of dog food.

Aldo Espinoza-Delgado, 21, and Sergio C. Cochran, 18, were arrested on suspicion of felony commercial burglary and criminal trespass.

According to the Maricopa Police Department, Espinoza-Delgado had three arrest warrants for failure to appear from Maricopa City Court – one for assault and two for underage consumption. Both are being booked into Pinal County Detention center.

An employee who lives next door to the business, which is located at 19884 N. John Wayne Parkway, heard dogs barking, noticed the business’ front door open, lights on in the store about 4:30 a.m. and called 911, according to MPD.

When officers arrived and saw the suspects, the two ran back in the store and stayed inside for about an hour.

Police set up a perimeter around the business with the help of Pinal County Sheriff’s Office and the Ak-Chin Police Department. The K9 unit also responded.

The suspects finally came out without incident and are being interviewed by detectives.

In a press release, MPD commended the employee for speedy action that led to a quick response from the police department and “played an important role in the apprehension of the burglary subjects.”
