MUSD middle school bands ‘excellent’

Maricopa Wells Advanced Panther Band and the Desert Wind Middle School Symphonic Band participated in the state-sponsored Arizona Band and Orchestra Directors Association Middle School Festival April 30.

Both bands earned “excellent” ratings for their performances during the festival at Desert Vista High School in Ahwatukee.

After their performances, a clinician guided the students through a rehearsal and offered encouragement for the students’ efforts.

“This is the first time since 2007 that a band from MWMS participated in this event …We are very proud of our band students and look forward to continued success,” said Jan Gardner, Maricopa Wells director of bands and orchestra.

It was also the first festival attended by DWMS.

Kevin Floth, director of the band, said his group “did a fantastic job of representing the school. They received great feedback and comments from the judges on how to improve their performance.”
